It’s getting warm outside. The holiday season is long past. The excuses for continuing to live a sedentary lifestyle are dwindling. It’s time to lace up those running shoes. Here’s a refresher of the reasons you want to go jogging on a regular basis.

  1. Improved Cardiovascular Fitness: Jogging is good for your heart. Just about everyone is aware of this fact. It improves how much oxygen your body is able to deliver. It reduces the risk of heart disease.
  2. Weight Loss: Jogging helps burn fat. It may not be as simple as jogging more to lose more weight. It turns out that the optimal range of fat burning for most people is 20 to 40 minutes of moderate jogging. Jogging a marathon is not necessarily the best weight loss plan.
  3. Mental Health: Some lucky individuals experience what they as “runners high.” Similar to other forms of exercise, jogging releases endorphins into the body which are essentially feel-good chemicals. Endorphins help counteract stress. Jogging is also a good way to help manage anxiety.
  4. Cancer Prevention: This is not necessarily a direct correlation. Jogging tends to affect different factors that relate to developing cancer.
